Walking the North Downs, Surrey - 10 miles (16km)
Join us and discover one of Surrey’s most breathtaking walking routes across the North Downs, perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a scenic countryside day walk. Your journey begins in Shalford, where you’ll pass the charming Shalford Mill, a beautifully preserved National Trust treasure, before climbing up onto the historic ridge of the North Downs.
The route leads you to the iconic hilltop at St Martha’s Church, a spectacular viewpoint renowned for its panoramic Surrey landscapes and unforgettable sunsets. From here, the trail winds through ancient, atmospheric woodlands before descending into Shere, one of England’s most picturesque villages — and filming location for the Jude Law and Kate Winslet movie The Holiday.
Your final stretch takes you to the 11th-century Gomshall Mill, an iconic riverside pub set directly above the tranquil River Tillingbourne. After relaxing here, it’s just a short stroll to Gomshall Station for an easy journey home, often accompanied by the peaceful glow of the early evening.
